Note that Volunteers may serve on one committee at a time. This is to ensure there are volunteer opportunities available for other CPCU Society members who wish to contribute.

DESCRIPTION:
The Chapter Governors Committee strengthens member recruitment and retention at the chapter level. The committee is responsible for oversight of an assigned chapter territory and the development of its chapter leaders.

DELIVERABLES AND ACCOUNTABILITY:
  • Support growth of chapters and chapter leadership in strategic, operational, succession and transition planning
  • Encourages networking and facilitates collaboration across chapters and chapter leadership
  • Raises awareness of existing formal and informal barriers to chapter success within the Society and makes recommendation to Managing Governors
  • Liaises with managing chapter governor and chapter leadership to foster, strengthen and enhance two-way communications
  • Liaises with and provides feedback, information and support to staff liaison
  • Meet regularly with and are encouraged to visit chapters within their territory
  • The Chapter Governor Committee is accountable to the Leadership Council; a member of the Leadership Council is appointed as committee liaison
  • Committee members meet either virtually or in-person at least four times per year. The committee may also conduct some of its business by e-mail
TERMS: 

Chapter Governors are appointed to a three year term and may serve two consecutive terms. Upon completion of two consecutive terms a Chapter Governor may apply to re-serve after being off the committee for a period of two years. 


QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • A current, active member of the CPCU Society
  • Has extensive service as a chapter leader
  • Solid understanding of the Society’s strategic objectives and support of those objectives.
  • Desire to work with chapters to ensure appropriate accountability standards are set for every chapter and to ensure a consistent member experience among all chapters
  • Desire to coach chapter leadership on chapter-facing initiatives and personal growth
  • Two years of professional experience in the insurance industry preferred
  • Ability to work independently and virtually to complete deliverables as required
  • Demonstrates honesty, sensitivity to and tolerance of differing views, a friendly, responsive and patient approach, community building skills, and a concern for the growth of the CPCU Society
  • Maintain respectful relationships with members, volunteers and staff
  • Maintains confidentiality of work as needed
  • Able to prioritize membership and organization over individual needs
