DESCRIPTION:

The Student Competition provides an opportunity for motivated students from across the country to show off their risk management and insurance knowledge, while sharpening their writing and presenting skills. The Student Competition Judges will not only be selecting the finalists and winners, but will provide feedback to students on how they can enhance their skills for the future.

DELIVERABLES AND ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Blind review student essays (up to 15 essays per judge) and rank each essay using Society-provided scoring matrix
  • Review assigned essays within a 2 week window (Sept. 16 thru Sept. 28)
  • Be able to meet virtually with other judges for calibration at the end of the review period to select 3 finalists that will move on to the presentation round
  • Provide feedback as warranted for students not selected to encourage future skill development
  • Be able to meet virtually (week of October 24) to judge the presentation round and select winning rank of 3 finalists


TERMS:
 
This is a micro-volunteer opportunity that will run from September thru October.  Those selected will spend approximately 10 – 15 hours on reading/scoring essays and participating in the virtual presentation judging.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • A current, active CPCU Society member 
  • Not currently a member of a Standing Committee or Interest Group Committee
  • Strong desire to engage with students to help sharpen their skills
  • Ability to work independently to complete the deliverables as required by the Society
