In the first of two connected webinars from the CPCU Society's Underwriting Interest Group, industry leaders in cybersecurity and cyber insurance will share their thoughts about the need for expanded underwriting and pricing approaches to effectively insure against ever-changing cyber exposures.  Attendees will be provided with insights around various changes that are being monitored and acted upon with respect to cyber exposures, coverages and underwriting/pricing challenges. In Part 2, the discussion will shift to underwriting challenges.

Joseph S. Harrington, CPCU, ARP, is an independent business researcher and writer specializing in property/casualty insurance coverages and operations.

Joe's work has appeared in insurance publications and portals, including textbooks published by The Institutes, and he has given numerous in-person and online presentations on insurance topics. During his career, Joe served on the national curriculum advisory committee for the American Institute for CPCU, now part of The Institutes. He has been an active member of the CPCU Society and continues to serve on the Society's publications committee.

Joe is a native of Connecticut, where he attended Sacred Heart University and the University of Connecticut. He later moved to Illinois and worked as a journalist before moving into business communications. He can be reached at josephsharrington@comcast.net.

Mark Fili graduated from Temple University in 2013 with a BBA, where he studied Risk Management and Insurance. From 2014 – 2018 Mark was a producer/account executive for a local retail agency in the Philadelphia Area handling all lines of commercial P&C. In 2018 he transitioned to underwriting where he narrowed his focus to professional lines and cyber. After 4 years with RLI Insurance, Mark joined the AXA XL in early 2022 where he currently handles cyber and technology E&O for large/middle market accounts in their central region.

Daniel A. Cotter is Attorney and Counselor with Howard & Howard Attorneys PLLC in Chicago, IL. Before joining Howard & Howard in 2019, Dan was a partner at two other firms and served as the general counsel, vice president & secretary of Fidelity Life Association, a large insurance company based on Chicago. Dan has spent almost 35 years of his legal and accounting career working with the insurance industry, where he has extensive experience handling transactional work, general regulatory and government relationships in multiple jurisdictions, and litigation and oversight, as well as cyber and data privacy work for more than 25 years.  Dan has advised both insurers and insureds in connection with cyber insurance. Dan has also drafted insurance policies and previously taught Insurance Law at The John Marshall Law School.  Dan is a past president of The Chicago Bar Association. Dan is a much sought-after writer and speaker on insurance, cyber, privacy and risk management. In 2019, his book, “The Chief Justices,” published, and in January 2021, he started a podcast he co-hosts, “The Podium and Panel,” discussing oral arguments.
