PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Managing Chapter Governor Committee provides oversight to the chapter governor committee ensuring better alignment with the staff liaison and chapter governors.  The committee is tasked with overall strategy to allow individual chapter governors to focus on their territory and the development of its chapter leaders.

DELIVERABLES:

·      Support growth of chapters and chapter leadership in strategic, operational, succession and transition planning

·      Encourages networking and facilitates collaboration across chapter governors, chapters and chapter leadership

·      Raises awareness of existing formal and informal barriers to chapter success within the Society and makes recommendations to the Leadership Council

·      Liaises with chapter governors to foster, strengthen and enhance two-way communications

·      Manages and recommends modifications to the Circle of Excellence Recognition Program

·      Liaises with and provides feedback, information and support to staff liaison

·      Meet regularly (at least twice a year) with chapter governors from assigned region

·      Encouraged to participate in chapter meetings within assigned regions

ACCOUNTABILITY:

·      The Managing Chapter Governor Committee is accountable to the Leadership Council; a member of the Leadership Council is appointed as committee liaison

Committee members meet either virtually or in-person at least four times per year. The committee may also conduct some of its business by e-mail

·      For succession planning, committee members are responsible for identifying qualified successors who are diverse and a good fit for the committee’s purpose and goals

·      A majority of the members of the Committee constitutes a quorum for the transaction of business, and the affirmative vote of a majority of those present is necessary for any action by the Committee. 

COMMITTEE LEADERSHIP:

The Managing Chapter Governor Committee members are appointed by the Society President, subject to approval by the Leadership Council. The committee, in collaboration with the staff liaison and Leadership Council liaison, is responsible for the overall direction and management of the committee. 

Preference will be given to an individual who has first served on the Chapter Governor Committee, has the support of their employer and has knowledge of Society structure and its volunteers.

TERMS:

Managing Chapter Governor Committee members are appointed to a three year term and may serve two consecutive terms.  Upon completion of two consecutive terms a committee member may apply to re-serve after being off the committee for a period of two years.
