Why Insurance Doesn't Cover the COVID-19 Pandemic

When:  May 25, 2021 from 02:00 PM to 03:00 PM (ET)
This webinar is based on the presenter’s 2020 book “Why Insurance Doesn’t Cover the COVID-19 Pandemic.” This program explains why insurance does not and cannot cover widespread catastrophic events and, more specifically, details the reasons why most business income insurance policies do not cover pandemics. The presenter provides a convincing argument as to why the “direct physical loss of or damage to property” requirement to trigger the insuring agreement is not fulfilled by a SARS-CoV-2 presence, countering litigation alleging otherwise. Also discussed are how a definition of “direct physical” is effectively provided within another policy definition, why orders of civil authority do not trigger that additional coverage, and why, even if there IS coverage for COVID-19 claims, it won’t amount to much. The webinar concludes with a consideration of the viability of a TRIA-like PRIA proposal for future pandemics.
